It’s two weeks into the Washington Huskies‘ first Big Ten season. Still, first-year head coach Jedd Fisch already knows that it’s an arms race to be competitive in their new conference.

In response to that arms race, Fish and his wife recently made a $1 million donation back to the program. With that, he was showing that he’s all in on the program and that he also knows what the challenges are going to be.

“First of all, it was important for Amber and I to commit to continuing to create incredible facilities here at the University of Washington,” Jedd Fisch said. “The Big Ten is an arms race in itself in both NIL and facilities and operating budgets and travel budgets and making sure that you’re top of the line in all areas. We are going against the best of the best, and in this ever-changing environment of college football, I think it’s so critical to make an investment from the inside out, from the top down, however you want to look at it, so that our community realizes the commitment that we’re making is one that we ask others to make as well and one in which we know we need to make if we’re going to compete at the highest level.”

Jedd Fisch has been aggressive in his approach to fundraising. In particular, he is leading Washington on what’s being called the Go Big! for Washington campaign. In that campaign, the school is hoping to raise $300 million to improve every aspect of the program. This comes at a time when Washington is only getting a partial share of the Big Ten’s overall revenue.

“As college football continues to change, we’re going to continue to ask for more support, and the Go Big! campaign is the start. We’re trying to raise $300 million over five years, and we’re going to need it all. We’re going to need it and then some because if we want to compete with the greatest programs and the top teams, we see what they’re doing,” Fisch said.

“We see what they’re doing on one side. We see what they’re doing NIL-wise, and we see what they’re doing with their collectives. On the other side, their facilities are top-of-the-line. In this conference, in the Big Ten, if you don’t have both, then you’re going to be left behind because the guys that are coming to visit us recruiting are then going on their next trip to Michigan and their next trip to Ohio State and their next trip to Oregon and we’ve got to look the same, feel the same, and those kids have got to feel that they’re getting that same commitment.”

On the field itself, Jedd Fisch has started 2-0 during his tenure at Washington. However, the Huskies won’t have a conference game until Week 4 when they take on Northwestern.
