Jeff Brohm confirms Ahmari Huggins-Bruce is not on Louisville's roster 'as of right now'
WR Ahmari Huggins-Bruce is reportedly headed back to where he came from with the Louisville Cardinals. However, it’s not something that Jeff Brohm is yet ready or able to confirm or deny.
Brohm addressed a question about Huggins-Bruce at the start of his press conference on Monday. In his response, he turned the attention back to the Cards currently on the team ahead of their opener this weekend against Austin Peay.
“Well, right now, I probably can just talk about people that are on our roster. So we’ll just have to leave it at that for this current moment,” Brohm said.
Still, in a clarification, Brohm said Huggins-Bruce just isn’t on their team as of today or at least earlier this morning.

“Not as of right now,” said Brohm.
Huggins-Bruce spent the first three seasons of his collegiate career at Louisville. He appeared in 37 games over that span, including seven starts as a sophomore. In those years, he caught 80 passes for 1,121 yards and 10 touchdowns. That was good to consistently have him amongst the top pass-catchers for the Cardinals.
Still, after last season, Huggins-Bruce entered his name into the transfer portal. He did so as the No. 67 WR and the No. 377 overall player in On3’s 2024 Transfer Portal Top Players.
After less than a week available, Huggins-Bruce committed to return to his home state at South Carolina. He was a former Top-10 prospect from there as a three-star talent back in 2021.
However, after enrolling and spending the spring and summer with the Gamecocks, On3’s Pete Nakos reported last week that Huggins-Bruce was no longer with the program with him planning to re-enroll with Louisville. With that, he would have to walk on to the team this time.

Brohm currently has other things to worry about ahead of the Cards’ opener this weekend against the Governors. Still, if and when he does end up back on the team, Huggins-Bruce would be a welcome addition back to the receiving corp for Louisville.
More on the decision by Huggins-Bruce
According to On3’s Pete Nakos, Ahmari Huggins-Bruce is no longer with the Gamecocks. Instead, he is re-enrolling at Louisville and weighing his options moving forward.
“Just spoke with South Carolina WR Ahmari Huggins-Bruce on the phone,” Nakos tweeted last week on Thursday. “He has re-enrolled at Louisville and is weighing his options. He’s yet to join the Louisville football program again. Would have to walk-on. UL’s Caullin Lacy is out for 6 weeks.”
Huggins-Bruce left the Cardinals at the end of last seaso and decided to play for South Carolina. Just before the season opener for both teams on August 31st, though, he is back with Louisville.
On3 has confirmed that Huggins-Bruce has informed the South Carolina staff of his departure.
During a radio show later on Thursday, Shane Beamer confirmed that Huggins-Bruce was no longer with their program. Beamer did not have any information on what the wide receiver’s future plans were at that time.
“He is no longer a member of the team,” Beamer said. “I’ll have more to say about that. I just have to talk to our own team first. I talked to him literally as I was walking into the radio show tonight.”
