Jim Harbaugh takes shot at Ryan Day in Chargers video: 'None here were born on third base'
Jim Harbaugh is a few months removed from being Michigan‘s head coach but appears to be as engulfed in The Game as ever. Being in Los Angeles has not stopped Harbaugh from taking shots at Ohio State and, more specifically, Ryan Day while on the West Coast.
The Chargers put together a welcome video message for their players as training camp gets away, showcasing the locker room. Harbaugh was the narrator and gave the players credit for making it to the NFL. He said nobody was “born on third base” and had to run through first and second base to get into the league.
A direct reference to his famous quote about Day being named the Ohio State head coach after Urban Meyer‘s retirement. Harbaugh may be in the NFL but he is not going to let the rivalry die anytime soon.
“We want to compliment all that have earned the opportunity to get here,” Harbaugh said. “Recognize the journey traveled to now be playing at the highest level of football. None here were born on third base but rather had to work their way to first, then second, then third. Congrats on taking your life circumstances and turning them into success by your talent and your effort.”
In the closing stages, Harbaugh states “We are now all on third base together, poised to bring it home.” You can check out the whole video here.

Harbaugh was a career 3-5 against Ohio State as the Michigan head coach, skipping the 2020 season due to COVID-19 complications. Nobody in Ann Arbor will remember the five losses though, with Harbaugh going on a historic three-game win streak.
Beating the Buckeyes led to three consecutive Big Ten championships, three College Football Playoff appearances, and was capped off by winning the national championship this past January. A journey nearly a decade long, Harbaugh finally got the job done and brought Michigan back atop the college football world.
Outside of the two CFP wins this year, there might not be wins higher on Harbaugh’s career coaching list than the Ohio State ones. Even through all the losses, he took every game personally. That was made even more clear when Day took over the program.
It appears as if no love’s lost between the two. Day continues at Ohio State and is even the favorite to win a national championship this season. You apparently can still expect Harbaugh to take shots, even if the Buckeyes find success this year.
