Jimbo Fisher 'very interested' in returning to coaching 'if the right situation comes along'

With his ACC Network debut quickly approaching, Jimbo Fisher said he’s also “very interested” in returning to coaching. He has not been on the sidelines since his firing from Texas A&M in 2023.
Speaking on Trials and Triumph with Freddie Stevenson, Fisher said he’s enjoying time with his family since leaving Texas A&M. But he pointed out his track record as a head coach prior to how things ended in College Station and said he still has fuel left in the tank to return to the game at some point.
If the “right situation” presents itself, Fisher said he would consider coming back. Even though the game has changed in multiple ways, he still has a love for coaching.
“I’ve enjoyed my time with my family, but I always tried to include my family,” Fisher said. “Remember, I took the kids, and we always had them at practices and they were, like, part of the team. They were in the locker rooms and all that. But to answer your question, if the right situation comes along and it’s right, I’m still 59. I’m still in great shape, I’m healthy, have had success everywhere we’ve ever been. We know at the end at A&M, it’s unfortunate, but we also had the highest-ranked team they ever had there in 2020. … The way the game is, yes, I still do because I still love it.
“I never thought of it as a job. I loved it. And I think to be able to do it, I would. I’ve been fortunate, I’ve on 72% of my games, won 80% of my playoff games and been fortunate to win a national championship as a head coach, as an assistant. I miss the relationships with the players. But to ask you that, yeah, I would be very interested in still doing it because I think I’ve still got a lot to give and I’d like to get back out there. I really would.”

More on Jimbo Fisher, year away from coaching
Jimbo Fisher got his head coaching start in the ACC at Florida State from 2010-17. The Seminoles won a national title under his watch as he went 83-23 overall and 48-16 in conference play before his departure for Texas A&M. FSU had six 10-win seasons under his watch and won three ACC titles.
Fisher then took over at Texas A&M in 2018 and went 45-25 until his firing in 2023, when he received a record buyout. The Aggies made three straight bowl victories and had four consecutive eight-win seasons to start his tenure. They also landed the No. 1-ranked recruiting class during the 2021 cycle to enter the season as the top-ranked team in the country. However, Texas A&M struggled to a 5-7 record to miss a bowl game entirely in 2022.
The 2023 season was also up-and-down, but the Aggies had a 6-4 record through 10 games. However, the university opted to fire Jimbo Fisher mid-season, paying him a record $77.6 million buyout in the process. He then spent last year away from football while contributing to SiriusXM, but will now join ACC Network and ACC Huddle this year as the show travels to marquee games every Saturday.
