Joe Castiglione shares timeline for potential return of Bedlam
On Nov. 4, 2023, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State played for the 113th consecutive year. That streak came to an end that night as the Sooners headed to the SEC, meaning Bedlam was coming to an end for the foreseeable future.
Since that matchup – a 27-24 Oklahoma State victory – the question became if the game would ever return. Oklahoma athletics director Joe Castiglione had an update on when it could potentially happen.
Castiglione predicted the rivalry likely wouldn’t come back until the next decade. Although Oklahoma and Oklahoma State play in other sports, they didn’t play in football this year for the first time since 1909, and it appears fans will have to wait a bit longer for a firm answer on when the game will return.
“It’s not going to happen until well into the ’30s,” Castiglione told CBS Sports Wednesday at the SBJ Intercollegiate Athletics Forum in Las Vegas.
Oklahoma holds the all-time series lead in Bedlam with a 91-20-7 record against Oklahoma State. However, the Cowboys got the last laugh in their final meeting, and they’ll continue to have bragging rights now that the Sooners are in the SEC and the series is over as things stand.

On the basketball court, though, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State will play Bedlam at a neutral site this year. The two teams will square off Dec. 14 at Paycom Center in Oklahoma City.
“OSU fans take great pride in the success we’ve had in the Bedlam rivalry,” said Oklahoma State athletics director Chad Weiberg in a statement, announcing the renewal and presenting sponsor for the series. “Although we know Bedlam will look different moving forward, we are excited for this game in the Paycom Center and are grateful for the people of Oklahoma Oil and Natural Gas for their support of the series.”
Oklahoma and Oklahoma State will also square off on the softball field in April. That matchup will be in Stillwater as the rivalry continues across multiple sports.
