Joel Klatt addresses if he is concerned about Georgia after performance vs. Kentucky
Georgia nearly lost their first regular season game in nearly four years this weekend at Kentucky. With that, Joel Klatt is suggesting that they straighten it out now over their bye week before what’s to come in the rest of their season.
Klatt gave his thoughts on the 13-12 win for the Bulldogs in the bluegrass during his show on Monday. He did begin by disproving some of the overall issues considering this isn’t the first time that someone has nearly knocked them off over that dominant span of theirs.
“I understand that we’ve seen this before,” said Klatt. “Again, maybe we can just pass this off and say, ‘Well, last year, they trailed by 11 at half to South Carolina. They were tied with Auburn with five minutes to go in the fourth. In 2022, they went to Missouri and they only won by four on the road.'”
“Like, maybe Georgia just does this?” Klatt thought.

However, as he pointed out, Georgia can’t afford to “just do this” in 2024.
The ‘Dawgs play one of their tougher schedules and one of the more difficult ones in the country. With that being the case, they can’t just have another outing like that one or else that regular-season loss is finally going to end up in their column.
“Here’s the difference. Those years? Georgia wasn’t playing the schedule that they’re playing this year,” said Klatt. “So, all I’m going to say is – not that Georgia is bad or gettable or any of this. I’m just saying that, if Georgia plays like they did on Saturday again or two more times during the course of the season, they probably will get beat because they’ve got much tougher games than they did in those previous years.”
“They’ve got that game against Alabama – that’s on the road. They’ve got to go to Texas, they’ve got to go to Ole Miss, they’ve got to host Tennessee. Those are four of the best teams in the country,” Klatt continued. “So, unless Georgia is locked in? Like, they’ll get beat in one of those games.”
One loss would be bad enough for those down in Athens. Still, if they’re capable of that kind of game, there’s at least a chance of them losing more than one.

That would then obviously hurt Georgia worse this year in achieving what they always want to.
“If they do that against one of those teams that I just mentioned, those four difficult games? Then Georgia will lose at some point. You can’t lose that often in the SEC or else you’re going to subject yourself to a tiebreaker for the SEC Championship. Then you’ll be playing in the first round of the playoff – maybe at home, maybe you’ll have to go on the road,” explained Klatt. “You see? It’s just, like, you’re bringing too much into the equation. You’re making your road to a national championship much more difficult. Let’s face it – that’s the only road that they really care about is getting back to and winning the national championship.”
There’s no reason to worry too much about Georgia until an opponent finally does catch them prior to the postseason. With that said, the Bulldogs also have to get some things right after this game before entering their first idle week.
“Am I concerned with Georgia? No. Georgia’s ceiling is just fine. It might be the highest ceiling in college football,” Klatt stated. “The problem is that Georgia has shown that their floor is really low.”
“So, concerned for Georgia? Not really. All I’m saying is that they better play more locked in in all these games down the stretch because their schedule is a lot tougher.”
