Joel Klatt argues for Shedeur Sanders, Cam Skattebo to be Heisman finalists

Joel Klatt has respect for the four incredible athletes who were chosen to head to New York as Heisman finalists, but he believes Shedeur Sanders and Cam Skattebo had a case to be selected, as well.
Travis Hunter, Ashton Jeanty, Cam Ward and Dillon Gabriel were chosen as the best of the best, but Klatt believes the Colorado quarterback and Arizona State running back were just as deserving. During the latest episode of The Joel Klatt Show, the namesake made the case for the Big 12 duo.
“I’m not saying that any of these players I’m about to bring up should go in-place of a finalist. All four finalists deserve to be finalists. They’ve played phenomenally. I think there should be one more,” Klatt stated. “You could bring up Cam Skattebo at Arizona State. You could bring up Shedeur Sanders. I think Shedeur Sanders actually has a stronger argument than anybody to at least be a Heisman finalist. This is why it should be five.
“You look at some of these seasons and you think to yourself, ‘Shedeur Sanders, his season was incredible.’ Skattebo’s was great. I think Shedeur’s was probably better. Shedeur Sanders was responsible for 82 percent of Colorado’s offense this year. That’s a staggering percentage. In fact, it’s the best in college football, and it’s the third highest in the last 25 years. 25 years? That is a staggering amount. … Shedeur should be in New York. There’s no doubt about it. … The Heisman should be five finalists. The fifth finalist should absolutely be Shedeur Sanders. I think he got snubbed from that role.

“But I want to be abundantly clear, the guys that are there deserve to be there. I think Shedeur deserves to be there, as well. I believe that he had one of the great seasons in college football. And you look at the guys in the history of our sport that have done what he has done statistically, are going to win the awards that he won — the Golden Arm Award. Those guys are normally Heisman Finalists.
“He’s not in New York. I think that that’s a shame. Skattebo has a bit of an argument. Not quite as strong an argument to be in New York as Shedeur.”
Alas, it’s a bit surprising the Colorado quarterback didn’t make it to New York at least, when you consider Joel Klatt’s points, but both players will have a shot to continue proving themselves over the next couple of months. Cam Skattebo will have a chance during the College Football Playoff, while Shedeur Sanders very well could be the first pick of the 2025 NFL Draft.
