Joel Klatt ranks top ten quarterbacks in college football entering 2025 season
Joel Klatt Show on YouTube

Fox Sports’ Joel Klatt ranked the top 10 quarterbacks in college football going into the 2025 college football season on his podcast. There are a lot of big names on this list as usual!

With veterans running the show again, those quarterbacks could be the ones most talked about. But there are some youngs who’ve already had some experience.

Let’s not waste any more time here and dive into Klatt’s top 10 quarterbacks. Reminder, this is post-spring practice.

1. Cade Klubnik, Clemson

2024 stats: 3,639 yards, 36 touchdowns, 6 interceptions, 63.4% completion percentage, 463 rushing yards, 7 rushing touchdowns

Klubnik is the top quarterback coming back per Klatt., The Clemson star enters his fourth year with the program. With the experience under his belt, he could lead the Tigers back to the playoffs and behind as he seemed to have unlocked something in 2024.

2. Arch Manning, Texas

2024 stats: 939 yards, 9 touchdowns, 2 interceptions, 67.8% completion percentage, 108 rushing yards, 4 rushing touchdowns

Manning had solid numbers in his backup role and in relief but he’s expected to take a giant step forward in his third year on campus. There’s no guarantee he leaves for the 2026 NFL Draft either! Klatt is high on him despite the lack of starting experience. But Manning has the tools to be elite.

3. John Mateer, Oklahoma

2024 stats (at Washington State): 3,139 yards, 29 touchdowns, 7 interceptions, 64.6% completion percentage, 826 rushing yards, 15 rushing touchdowns

Mateer comes in from Washington State and gives the Sooners a great option at QB. He’s a dual threat, as he compiled nearly 900 yards on the ground last season. That and 44 total touchdowns? The Sooners have themselves a gamer at quarterback as Klatt has him in the top three.

4. Sam Leavitt, Arizona State

2024 stats: 2,885 yards, 24 touchdowns, 6 interceptions, 61.7% completion percentage, 443 rushing yards, 5 rushing touchdowns

Leavitt broke out as a star at Arizona State last season, following his transfer from Michigan State. He led ASU to a Big 12 title and the College Football Playoff. He could very well be one of college football’s big stars in 2025 and Klatt seems to be very high on him.

5. Drew Allar, Penn State

2024 stats: 3,327 yards, 24 touchdowns, 8 interceptions, 66.5% completion percentage, 302 rushing yards, 6 rushing touchdowns

Allar elected to stay in college this season rather than go to the NFL. He has pro-ready tools but maybe needs a little refinement in some areas. Allar can certainly elevate his stock in Klatt and the country’s eyes if he leads Penn State to a national title.

6. Garrett Nussmeier, LSU

2024 stats: 4,052 yards, 29 touchdowns, 12 interceptions, 64.2% completion percentage

Nussmeier isn’t much of a runner, but he can sling it better than most. He could very well be the top quarterback selected next year, or at least in the first round. For now, Klatt has him just outside of the top five quarterbacks in college football this coming season.

7. DJ Lagway, Florida

2024 stats: 1,915 yards, 12 touchdowns, 9 interceptions, 59.9% completion percentage, 101 rushing yards

Lagway is one of the hottest names in college football when it comes to quarterbacks. While his stats weren’t gaudy as a freshman, he’s got the stuff to be an elite college quarterback. Klatt put him in at No. 7 and Florida will only go as far as he’ll take them.

8. LaNorris Sellers, South Carolina

2024 stats: 2,534 yards, 18 touchdowns, 7 interceptions, 65.6% completion percentage, 674 rushing yards, 7 rushing touchdowns

Sellers is an exciting player and if the passing game is elevated in 2025, he’s going to be tough to stop. Klatt has him in the bottom half of the quarterback rankings, but he’s one of the best overall players on South Carolina’s roster. He’s also extremely fast, good luck catching him.

9. Luke Altmyer, Illinois

2024 stats: 2,717 yards, 22 touchdowns, 6 interceptions, 60.8% completion percentage, 217 rushing yards, 4 rushing touchdowns

Altmyer was very solid as Illinois signal caller last season and there were some rumors about him entering the portal. Well, he’s back for 2025 and Illinois could be a sneaky Big Ten contender once again. Klatt has him on the top 10 quarterbacks list for a reason. In fact, per this list, Altmyer is the second best quarterback in the Big Ten in 2025!

10. Carson Beck, Miami

2024 stats (with Georgia): 3,485 yards, 28 touchdowns, 12 interceptions, 64.7% completion percentage

Beck dealt with an injury that knocked him out of the College Football Playoff last year, so Georgia was undermanned for their quarterfinal game. Beck ended up transferring to Miami and if he’s healthy, there could be plenty of upside in the Hurricanes’ offense. But after once being thought of as a top pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, Beck has a lot to prove and Klatt has him at the bottom of the top 10 quarterbacks in the country.
