Joel Klatt reacts with definitive statement on Deion Sanders-Colorado band report
Colorado has been criticized following reports that Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders told the school band not to play the fight song and play his son and quarterback Shedeur Sanders‘ song after he scores a touchdown.
A school spokesperson has since released a statement regarding the situation, debunking the reports and revealing that Colorado’s fight song plays immidiately after a snippet of Sheduer’s song, ‘Perfect Timing’ is played through the stadium loudspeakers.
FOX analyst and former Colorado quarterback Joel Klatt has since reacted to the news. If the official statement wasn’t enough — Klatt gave the TLDR version.
“This is false…that is all,” he wrote on X.

Klatt’s statement is backed by the official one from the school, which explained the situation in greater detail.
“This is not true,” the statement reads. “Nobody ever asked the band to refrain from playing the fight song. After a touchdown, the band plays “Glory, Glory, Colorado” and after a point after touchdown, the band plays “Fight CU” as has been standard practice for years.

“When Shedeur Sanders scores, the band will wait a moment a moment for a small snippet of Shedeur’s song to play before immediately kicking into “Glory, Glory, Colorado.” This is exactly what happened during the game against North Dakota State. This practice is not unique to Shedeur, as the band will wait a moment after a successful field goal to play Alejandro Mata‘s song before playing “Fight CU.”
Shedeur would finish the 31-26 victory over NDSU having completed 26 of 34 passes for 445 yards, four touchdowns and an interception. After each of those four touchdowns, the Colorado statement says those steps were followed each time.
Colorado won’t be back inside Folsom Field until they start Big 12 Conference play against the Baylor Bears on Sept. 21. The same procedures for every Shedeur touchdown are expected to continue, based on the statement.
