Fox Sports’ Joel Klatt shook up his top 10 team rankings after Week 1 of college football, including a new No. 1 team!

There were some eye-opening results as well as some you probably knew were coming. Nonetheless, there’s a picture of the best teams in the country, albeit early.

Let’s dive into Klatt’s top 10 team rankings following the first full week of college football.

1. Georgia

The Bulldogs trounced Clemson in a neutral site game and moved up to the top of Klatt’s rankings after Week 1. It was tight early, but then Georgia’s offense woke up.

The defense did its thing all game long and it led to way more criticism of Clemson than props for Georgia. But let’s give the Bulldogs their flowers as well. It’s the best team in college football.

2. Ohio State

Ohio State didn’t do anything to not be Klatt’s No. 1 team in his personal rankings, it’s just that Georgia’s performance stood out. Ohio State took care of business and looked like the best team in the Big Ten.

Will Howard was solid, Jeremiah Smith is already a stud and the defense was suffocating. We’ll keep saying it: national title or bust.

3. Texas

The Longhorns picked up right where they left off, looking quite dominant. Colorado State stood no chance.

Sure, Texas fell short in last year’s College Football Playoff, but perhaps this season will be different, even in the SEC. Quinn Ewers had a quick night at the office and this easily one of the best teams in the country.

4. Notre Dame

Notre Dame went into Kyle Field and beat Texas A&M for one of the biggest wins of Marcus Freeman’s young career. They skyrocketed in Klatt’s rankings.

With elite offensive line play and stifling defense, Notre Dame is going to be a tough out for anyone in the country. How the 2024 season unfolds for the Fighting Irish should be fascinating.

5. Alabama

Alabama also played a nearly flawless game over the weekend and suddenly fans forgot about Nick Saban. Just kidding of course.

Klatt likes the Crimson Tide as a top five team because the standard didn’t change from Saban to Kalen DeBoer. If that’s the case overall, good luck keeping this team out of the playoff.

6. Miami

Miami soared up everyone’s rankings it seems due to a dominant display in Gainesville. The Gators stood no chance.

The biggest eye popping player was Cam Ward, who seamlessly took over Miami’s QB spot and looked dangerous. If that’s the type of Ward you get all season, this’ll be one of the best teams in the country.

7. Ole Miss

The Rebels decimated Furman, we actually feel bad. Nonetheless, at least through one week, Jaxson Dart looks like he can win the Heisman Trophy.

It remains to be seen if Ole Miss can sustain dominance and be Lane Kiffin’s best team ever. But right now, this team factors into the College Football Playoff rankings.

8. Penn State

The Nittany Lions shook off a slow start and ran past West Virginia in the second half Saturday. They are squarely in Klatt’s top 10 rankings.

Now it’s up to Penn State to keep it consistent. Is this truly a Big Ten contender? Or just another second-tier team on the outside looking in. Right now, it looks like the former.

9. Michigan

Klatt likened this team to an early version of Jim Harbaugh’s Wolverine teams. It might not be pretty, but this team could be better than anticipated.

Sherrone Moore waited til kickoff to announce Davis Warren as the starting quarterback and that’ll probably be the biggest question all season. Still, there’s talent on offense and the defense is still loaded. Watch out.

10. Oregon

The Ducks struggled mightily with Idaho, which was a surprise to pretty much everyone. However, this is still one of the more talented teams in the country.

The defense will be tested, but has great potential to be one of the better units. Let’s not forget that Dillon Gabriel is considered one of the better quarterbacks in the country and can surely figure it out.

Sure, Klatt’s rankings changed after a week and they’ll certainly change again after Week 2. Just wait until there are upsets!
