Texas has one of the best quarterbacks in the country in Quinn Ewers. However, due to circumstances in their new conference as well as in his own position room, Joel Klatt doesn’t think that Quinn gets the attention that he deserves.

Klatt noted Ewers during his breakdown of Texas vs. Michigan on his show on Thursday. He sees him as a great player who can sometimes just go unnoticed.

“I think Ewers is an exceptional player and he’s, in a lot of ways overlooked,” said Klatt.

Klatt underlined the pair of explanations as to why that is for Ewers. For one, some see a better team and better quarterback leading them within their own league in the SEC. For two, no reserve on the depth chart gets more discussed than the one behind Ewers.

However, neither seems to affect Ewers whatsoever now.

“Two reasons. Georgia and Carson Beck take a lot of that air, you know, in the conversation out from an SEC perspective. And, let’s face it, Ewers’ backup is the most talked-about backup in college football in Arch Manning. Yet this guy has kind of matured and grown up to a point where I don’t think it bothers him all that much,” said Klatt.

Ewers is coming off his best collegiate season last year. He completed 64.7% of his throws overall for 3,479 yards, 22 touchdowns, and six interceptions. That helped take Texas to their best finish in over a decade with a 12-2 record, a Big 12 Championship, and a spot in the College Football Playoff.

Now, Ewers has opened his fourth campaign by completing 74.1% of his passes for 260 yards, three scores, and a pick in a 52-0 win over Colorado State. That started a year where he’s expected to be an all-conference and national contributor again.

Ewers has proven himself over the last season or so with his play on The 40 Acres. That’s all he needs to concern himself with as Klatt thinks it’ll be more than enough to get that kind of acknowledgment by season’s end.

“He’s exceptional,” said Klatt. “If he just continues to play the way that he’s playing? He will absolutely be in New York for the Heisman Trophy ceremony and he might win it. That’s how good of a player that Ewers is.”
