Joey Galloway believes Cam Ward can lead Miami to success this season
The Miami Hurricanes came into the 2024 season with high expectations thanks to transfer quarterback Cam Ward. He then went in Week 1 and seemed to exceed those expectations in a blowout win over the Florida Gators.
ESPN analyst and former wide receiver Joey Galloway was incredibly impressed by what he saw and argued on Get Up that he believes Cam Ward can lead to success for Miami.
“Cam Ward might finally be the quarterback to get Miami over the hump,” Joey Galloway said. “They’ve always had talent. We thought they were a good football team. They couldn’t find a way to win. Now, Cam Ward comes in. Playmaking quarterback. He has an attitude to him.”
Miami got a 41-17 win over Florida. That the Hurricanes won wasn’t a surprise but the manner that they won in did catch plenty of people off-guard. A big part of the game came down to Ward’s play. He finished with 385 passing yards and three touchdowns while rushing for another 33 yards.

“What I would love to see is him throw the ball with two feet on the ground in a balanced situation because these kinds of throws will get you in trouble eventually when you play better teams, but for right now, Miami looks really good with Cam Ward,” Galloway concluded.

With the win at Florida, Cam Ward established he could lead Miami to a big win against a talented opponent on the road. It was just one game, though, and now he’ll need to maintain it throughout the season. That starts next week with the home opener against Florida A&M.
Cam Ward not impressed by Florida crowd noise, advises fans when to cheer
Following the win over Florida, Cam Ward shared that he wasn’t impressed by the rowdy Florida crowd. In particular, he suggested that the fans were cheering at the wrong time.
“It wasn’t (the loudest). I played at USC. USC wasn’t packed, but it was louder than this. I played at Oregon and it was louder than this. The Pac-12 is misspoken for. That’s where I believe real football is played. Coming from Washington (State), Washington is one of the loudest environments I’ve played,” Ward said.
“Some advice to the fans: I would say if you’re gonna be loud, be loud when we’re huddling. You can’t just be loud when we break the huddle. By that time, there’s no point. We hear the play and we communicated already. But it was a good atmosphere to play in and I was just excited that we were able to get a victory.”
