Alabama has two of the best wins in the country this season — taking down Georgia in October and then beating LSU by nearly 30 in Baton Rouge on Saturday night. But at the same time, two losses are on the resume to Vanderbilt and Tennessee. Even a few of the Crimson Tide wins have not been too impressive in Year One of Kalen DeBoer.

Inconsistent is a word you could safely use to describe the season so far for Alabama. Playing good football and the right time is what ultimately will matter, though. Joey Galloway believes that is what Alabama is setting itself up to do down the stretch, crediting the play of Jalen Milroe.

“They look like, sometimes, the best team in the country,” Galloway said. “Last week against LSU, they looked outstanding. But we’ve also seen them have some flaws. But they’re peaking at the right time. Running the ball with Jalen Milroe and forget the rest of the plays.”

This from Galloway came after Alabama was ranked No. 10 in the College Football Playoff rankings, moving up a spot from a week ago. They are the second-to-last team in the field from an at-large perspective. If the CFP started today, a trip to Bloomington to face Indiana would occur.

Everyone in Tuscaloosa is hoping to eventually rise in the rankings. At the very least, hosting a Playoff game, if not winning the SEC and earning a top-four seed plus a bye.

“Peaking at the right time” certainly would become true if Alabama were to eventually win the SEC. Milroe will need to continue his high level of play as he did against LSU, rushing for 185 yards and four touchdowns. And then if DeBoer goes against Galloway’s advice and decides to throw the ball, the likes of Ryan Williams are ready to perform as we have already seen in stints.

Three games remain on the schedule, beginning Saturday with Mercer. Oklahoma and Auburn are the final two SEC games of the year, giving Alabama three opportunities to play well before getting into potential postseason play.
