Joey Galloway questions Texas' College Football Playoff resume
Just one week separates us from the first College Football Playoff rankings of the 2024 season. Plenty of questions will be answered, giving us clarity on where the committee stands. One thing ESPN’s Joey Galloway will be looking for is where they slot Texas, given the weird nature of their resume.
Two of the perceived best wins Steve Sarkisian‘s bunch has this season are Michigan and Oklahoma. Both were ranked at the time and even away from home, won in dominant fashion. This has propped Texas as high as No. 1 in the AP poll and currently No. 6 despite having a loss to Georgia.
So Galloway wonders how the committee will view those wins considering neither the Wolverines nor Sooners are likely to be ranked on Nov. 5.
“When you look at the Texas resume,” Galloway began. “When they played Michigan, Michigan was ranked No. 10. Now, Michigan is unranked, they’re 5-3. When they played Oklahoma, Oklahoma was ranked, I think 18th. And now Oklahoma has lost a bunch of ranked games and they’re unranked.
“When you look at the Texas resume, they have Vandy on that resume, but how does the committee go back and take a look at games against teams that were ranked at the time when Texas played them and then they’re no longer ranked because their season hasn’t gone the way they wanted it to go.”

Michigan vs. MSU fight
Big Ten will not punish Wolverines or Spartans following the end-of-game fight on Saturday.
Saturday’s win against Vanderbilt was mentioned but the Commodores are now 5-3. Four more SEC games remain on the schedule but the season finale against Texas A&M is the only opponent currently ranked by the AP poll. It’s a safe bet the same will be true of the CFP rankings next Tuesday.
Of course, taking care of business is priority No. 1 in Austin as 11-1 is likely to get you in the field and maybe even the SEC Championship game. That would then give the Longhorns a chance to earn a first-round bye as an automatic qualifier.
Until those games play out, Galloway is skeptical of a quality win and wonders if the committee has the same train of thought.
