4-star John Bol talks visits; updates his recruitment

John Bol is the No. 24 player in the 2024 On3 Consensus. The 7-foot-2 junior at Bel Aire (KS) Sunrise Christian averaged 8.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 2.0 blocks while shooting 70 percent from the field at the Bob Kirk Invitational.
“I’ve been working a lot on my offensive game,” Bol told On3. “Inside the paint, finishing both hands at the rim. That part of my game is improving; for me, I’m just getting better 1 percent every day. I watch a lot of Anthony Davis and Kevin Garnett, with my ability to run as a big man and my agility with moving my feet. Their footwork has helped me continue getting better.”
The four-star was the starting center this summer for Nike’s EYBL 17u Circuit champion, MoKan Elite. On3 caught up with John Bol after a recent live viewing to talk about visits and get an updated look at his recruitment.
“I’ve taken two official visits so far,” Bol said. “I’ve gone to Michigan and Missouri.”

Missouri: “I really like their style of play. I think they are 9-0 or 9-1 right now, and that is impressive. I like their culture and how they act as a team. Coach (Dennis) Gates is a really good coach, I think.”

Michigan: “Them being my first visits was mind-blowing for me. As a kid from Africa, me being able to ever go on a visit like that was crazy. And it being Michigan, one of the biggest schools in the country, I loved each and every moment there.
“The coaches, the players, I’m already familiar with some of them. I like how they play, too; they play really good. The bigs there don’t just set screens; they have roles in the offense too. That is something I liked. I have a good relationship with Coach Juwan (Howard). We talk often, so I would say our relationship is really good.”
“Arkansas, Texas, Texas Tech, Marquette, Florida, USC, and Nebraska are some other schools recruiting me pretty consistently,” Bol said. “I don’t have any other visits set yet, but I’m hearing from a lot of schools.”
In John’s words
“I’ll be looking for a place where I can fit in,” Bol said. “Fit in with my physique and the way I play. I’ll look closely at the style of play a school is playing. I don’t want just to set screens all game; play only in the pick and roll. I want to be able to face up, maybe shoot it some.”
