Report: Former Washington, Texas transfer Johntay Cook to visit Arkansas

Former Washington and Texas transfer wide receiver Johntay Cook is set to visit Arkansas on Thursday, according to a report from Mike Roach. Cook recently took visits to Syracuse and Arizona State, as well.
Cook spent two years at Texas and appeared in six games this past season before leaving the program, Inside Texas’ Eric Nahlin reported. He hauled in eight receptions for 137 yards and two touchdowns one year after totaling 136 receiving yards as a freshman.
Cook transferred to Washington during the winter transfer portal window, but On3’s Pete Nakos reported the two sides parted ways shortly thereafter. He then re-entered the portal when the spring window opened April 16.

Johntay Cook played high school football at DeSoto (TX), where he was a five-star prospect. He was the No. 31 overall recruit and the No. 3 wide receiver in the 2023 recruiting cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
During the winter transfer window, Cook also received interest from Florida and took a visit to Gainesville before committing to Washington. So far through the spring window, he has drawn interest from Houston, Oklahoma, BYU, Syracuse and Indiana – in addition to Arkansas – since entering the transfer portal earlier this week.
Cook was also at the center of legal issues in February. According to inmate logs in Tarrant County, Texas, law enforcement booked Cook into the Lon Evans Corrections Center in Fort Worth Feb. 4. The charges against him included a pair of misdemeanors with theft as well as interfering with public duties. Ten days later, on Feb. 14, he was booked for marijuana possession of less than two ounces.
