Penn State transfer cornerback Jon Mitchell committed to Georgia Tech, he told On3’s Hayes Fawcett. He is the top available cornerback in the transfer portal.

Mitchell made six appearances as a true freshman in 2024, recording five total tackles. Because two of those games were in the College Football Playoff, he was still able to preserve a redshirt, meaning he will have all four years of eligibility remaining.

Mitchell recorded all his statistics during the regular season. He had two tackles in a game twice, doing so against Kent State and Maryland.

The On3 Transfer Portal Instagram account and Twitter account are excellent resources to stay up to date with the latest moves.

Jon Mitchell played high school football at Jacksonville (Fla.) Mandarin, where he was a four-star prospect. He was the No. 105 overall player from the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Once he entered the portal, Mitchell came in as the No. 202 overall player and No. 24-ranked cornerback in the On3 Industry Transfer Rankings. He committed to Georgia Tech as the top available cornerback transfer.

With Mitchell’s addition, Georgia Tech now has 16 additions coming in from the transfer portal. The Yellow Jackets suffered some notable losses, though, with wide receiver Eric Singleton as the biggest departure. He came in as the No. 4-ranked player in the On3 Industry Transfer Rankings and ultimately committed to Auburn.

Georgia Tech was still able to land a big-time wide receiver in the portal, though. Former FIU receiver Eric Rivers is on his way to Atlanta, checking in as the No. 38 overall player in the On3 Industry Transfer Rankings.

Georgia Tech went 7-6 in 2024 with a notable victory in the season opener against Florida State in Ireland. The Yellow Jackets also played a close one in the rivalry matchup against Georgia. The game went to eight overtimes before the Bulldogs held on for the 44-42 victory at Sanford Stadium.
