Jon Scheyer addresses Jai Lucas to Miami rumors: 'It's not our news to share'

With Duke facing off against Miami on Tuesday, there is a major connection between the two. Jai Lucas, a current Duke assistant, is widely considered the favorite for the Miami job. Lucas has never been a head coach but appears set to finish the regular season and go on a postseason run in Durham before taking over in Coral Gables.
Questions about the potential hire were asked during Jon Scheyer‘s postgame press conference. He once again spoke highly of Lucas but wanted to make something clear. If anyone is going to break the news of Lucas leaving Duke for Miami, it’s not going to be him or anyone inside the program.
Scheyer will let Miami handle everything moving forward.
“We’re going to talk about our team,” Scheyer said. “Coach Lucas is the best. I think these guys would tell you the impact that he’s made. It’s not our news to share. We don’t know, this is not our news to share. So, we’ll let Miami handle that.”
Lucas made a little bit of history when Scheyer hired him. For three decades, all assistant coaches for Duke had played for the program at one point, Scheyer included. The streak was broken by Lucas ahead of the 2022-2203 season. One year later, a promotion to associate head coach was earned.
Everything has clicked thus far for Duke, playing like one of the best teams in college basketball. When Selection Sunday comes rolling around, the Blue Devils should be a one-seed. The list of national title contenders does not exist without Duke on it.

For now, that’s all Scheyer wants to discuss. Lucas very well could be on the move this offseason but official word will not be coming from Scheyer.
Jai Lucas a top candidate for Miami job but nothing official
Duke assistant coach Jai Lucas is a “top candidate” for the Miami head coach job, The Field of 68’s Jeff Goodman reported. However, there is no deal in place between the two sides.
Reports swirled Saturday about whether Miami was set to hire Lucas to replace Jim Larranaga. However, On3’s CaneSport reported the program has not yet made a hire and is still going through the process.
During his coaching career, Lucas has become known as one of the top recruiters in the country. On3’s Jamie Shaw also listed him as one of 20 assistant coaches poised for head coaching opportunities.
