Nation's No. 1 safety Jonah Williams commits to Texas
On3’s No. 1 safety Jonah Williams announced his commitment to Texas on Saturday evening.
The On3 Industry five-star chose to play for the Longhorns over his other finalists Texas A&M, LSU, Oregon and USC.
The 6-foot-3, 1/2, 206-pound Williams becomes commit No. 18 for head coach Steve Sarkisian and his staff in the 2025 cycle.
“The coaching staff is great!” Williams has told On3. “I mean they check all the boxes that I want in a college.”
Williams will play football and baseball for the Longhorns.
July visit to Texas was a game-changer
When the Galveston (Texas) Ball standout returned to the Texas campus at the end of July it was an experience saw the Longhorns start charging towards the top.
“You know they send guys to the league,” Williams stated. “If you’re a good player you will go to the league from anywhere but why not do it for the home state?

Future position coach Blake Gideon led the charge in recruiting Williams to Texas with an assist from defensive coordinatro Pete Kwiatkowski.
“I’m close with Coach Gideon,” Williams said. “I’m close with the DC.”
Williams father Billy also gave Texas high marks.
“I’m really impressed with Coach Sarkisian and the method he’s beginning to accomplish things. I think all the players are very in tune to what he’s trying to teach there. I’m very impressed with that.”
Williams looks like an instant impact prospect for Texas
The On3 Industry’s No. 10 prospect regardless of position was a three-way standout as a junior. Last fall Williams turned 20 receptions into 474 yards and eight touchdowns with two more rushing scores. On defense he had 58 tackles, four interceptions (three pick sixes), two fumble recoveries (one returned for a score), eight passes defended and a forced fumble. On special teams he returned two kicks for six and two punts for touchdowns.
“Jonah Williams has an elite combination of size, athleticism and playmaking ability in the back half of the defense,” On3’s Director of Scouting Charles Power said. “He has the athleticism and movement skills of a high-end defensive back in the frame of a linebacker. That gives him a ton of versatility and potential to be a queen on the chessboard in any defense.”
