Talking season brings us one of the best events of the offseason, SEC Media Days. All kinds of discussions are taking place in Atlanta, particularly around the quarterback position. Some of the country’s best play in the SEC and seem prepared to fully break out.

Debates have flown regarding who should be ranked as the conference’s best quarterback. Jordan Rodgers put together his own list, naming the top five in his opinion on Tuesday via CFB Live on ESPN2.

Given how passionate SEC fan bases are, a few feathers might be ruffled with the top five. You will have to check it out for yourself, starting down on the Bayou.

1. Garrett Nussmeier, LSU

Heisman Trophy buzz is certainly strong around Nussmeier heading into his second season as the full-time starting quarterback. Jumps have been made in this situation before at LSU, most recently by Jayden Daniels.

Nussmeier is projected to have one of the best wide receiver groups surrounding him. If everything comes together, as Rodgers seems to believe, the Tigers quarterback could hear his name called quite early in April.

2. DJ Lagway, Florida

Injury concerns might be present with Lagway heading into the season. But when at full strength, it’s tough to deny the talent Lagway possesses after being a former Five-Star Plus+ prospect.

Nobody else in the quarterback room will be in his way, either. Lagway will be the one running the Florida show alongside head coach Billy Napier, attempting to get through another brutal schedule.

3. LaNorris Sellers, South Carolina

Sellers is a man with many nicknames, even listing some of his favorite ones on Tuesday at SEC Media Days. No matter what you call him, expectations for the South Carolina quarterback are sky high.

New offensive coordinator Mike Shula will work with Sellers on being a little better inside the pocket this season. But when the opportunity to take off does arise, there is no more dangerous threat in the SEC.

4. John Mateer, Oklahoma

The first newcomer on Rodgers’ list, Mateer was highly sought after in the NCAA transfer portal via Washington State. However, there was never really a doubt about where he would wind up.

Oklahoma is hoping Mateer can take their offense to the next level in 2025. Pairing up with offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle once again only adds to the confidence in Norman.

5. Arch Manning, Texas

Rodgers has been quite fiery about his Manning opinions at SEC Media Days. He has taken the opposite approach of Paul Finebaum, who believes Manning is already one of the top players in college football.

Questions about the ceiling are why Rodgers is calling for a pause. Rodgers likes the floor Manning presents for Texas but has cast doubt about some important traits.
