Florida State | Mike Norvell Responds to CFP Committee question

Florida State quarterback Jordan Travis displayed an example of good sportsmanship Sunday with a message to Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe. It was a heartbreaking day for Travis and the Seminoles, who were snubbed from the College Football Playoff despite finishing the year as undefeated ACC Champions.

Although FSU’s resume was more than good enough to make the field, the news that Travis suffered a season-ending injury impacted the committee’s decision. The Crimson Tide, which defeated Georgia in the SEC Championship, jumped ahead of the Seminoles to claim the fourth and final spot.

Travis made it clear earlier in the day how disappointed he was that his teammates wouldn’t get the chance to compete for a national title. Yet when Milroe posted a photo to Instagram seemingly celebrating Alabama’s CFP berth, the Florida State quarterback offered an encouraging comment.

“Go win it all brodie,” he wrote under Milroe’s post.

Florida State missing out on the Playoff marked history, as no other undefeated Power 5 conference champion had ever been left out. However, after shaky 16-6 win against Louisville in the ACC title game in which it managed just 55 yards passing, it became clear this wasn’t the same team.

Milroe earned the MVP award in Alabama’s 27-24 SEC title win after throwing for 192 yards and a pair of touchdowns. He also had two big runs for first downs on the final drive of the game that allowed the Crimson Tide to run out the clock and secure the victory. His rushing ability has been a big threat this season with 468 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Although it’s certainly a tough blow for Florida State, it’s refreshing to see Jordan Travis wish Jalen Milroe well ahead of the College Football Playoff. The Crimson Tide are tasked with taking down No. 1 seed Michigan in the Rose Bowl on New Year’s Day.

In wake of the hearting news Sunday, Travis himself posted a message on Twitter expressed how torn up he is over the situation.

He tweeted: “devastated. heartbroken. In so much disbelief.”

Since Corrigan noted that Florida State just didn’t impress the committee enough without Travis, the FSU quarterback asserted that FSU would have been better off losing him earlier in the year so they could have proved how great a complete team they are.

“I wish my leg broke earlier in the season so y’all could see this team is much more than the quarterback,” he added. “I thought results matter. 13-0 and this roster matches up across any team in those top 4 rankings. I am so sorry. Go Noles!”
