2025 SF Jordan Watford talks Mississippi State and early recruitment
Jordan Watford burst on the scene this high school season. The 6-foot-4 wing averaged around 17 points, seven rebounds, and two blocks, leading his Lancaster (SC) High School team to a birth in the South Carolina State Championship game.
“I’m an unselfish, downhill player,” Watford told On3. “I like to get to my mid-range. I’m getting more confident in my shooting now. I watch a lot of LeBron James. The way he plays the game, how unselfish he is, and the way he gets downhill, I watch a lot of LeBron.”
On3 caught up with Jordan Watford after a recent live viewing to talk about his recruitment.
Watford talks recruiting
“Right now, Mississippi State is my only offer,” Watford said.
Mississippi State: “One of the main things they focus on is defense, and I like that. That’s the type of team that I play with both in high school and in travel ball. We’re still getting to know each other and are going through that process.”
“I’m hearing a lot from schools like South Carolina and Clemson,” Watford said. “They both came to watch my games in June.”

In Watford’s words
“I can fit into a lot of different systems,” Watford said. “Anything a coach needs me to do, I want to win. My high school and travel teams both play up and down, and I’m comfortable with that. My dad, Eric Watford, played basketball at Winston-Salem State, and my mom, Greta McIlwain, played basketball at Johnson C. Smith. My sister plays at Francis Marion.
“I’ll look at academics too. I don’t know what I want to major in yet, I have a lot of interests, but that will play a role for me.”
