4-star safety Jordon Johnson-Rubell sets commitment date, names top 4 schools
IMG Academy (Fla.) four-star safety Jordon Johnson-Rubell named his top five schools last month.
Included on the list were Michigan, Ohio State, TCU, Texas and USC.
The Trojans are now out, and Johnson-Rubell announced on Wednesday night that he will make his commitment decision on July 1. The Wolverines, Buckeyes, Horned Frogs and Longhorns each remain in contention.
“Thinking of all the visits together, I feel like this week I need to soak things in and make different phone calls to see where I’m actually going,” Johnson-Rubell told On3’s Chad Simmons on Wednesday. “My official visits were important. They all had their ups-and-downs and things they do differently. These OVs helped me pick my mind for which schools I could see myself going to.
… I feel like they’re all very close. That’s why this week I need to make a decision, make sure it’s the right decision and sit down with my family to talk about it.”

Johnson-Rubell also broke down each of the contenders with Simmons:
TCU: “They see me being a hometown kid very highly and a lot of guys from Fort Worth don’t go to TCU. Me being a hometown hero type of guy is a big thing.”

Texas: “I could definietly see myself in their scheme. They run the same scheme we do at IMG. Them talking about the SEC more was different. At first it was just a thing but now it’s actually happening. Them talking about the SEC, how they’ll do certain things and who they’ll play is new to me and I liked hearing it.”
Ohio State: “Guarding the best receivers in practice every day is the dream. Going to IMG, you compete against the best to make you better and at Ohio State it’s the same. You compete against the best receivers in the country every day at practice. They’re a national-championship caliber team.”
Michigan: “Coach Jim Harbaugh is one of the smartest coaches in the country. My position coach at IMG used to coach at Michigan so we watch Michigan film and that’s a great connection keeping them near the top.”
