Loganville (Ga.) Grayson four-star defensive lineman Joseph Mbatchou has committed to Texas.

He chose the Longhorns following his decommitment from Florida on Oct. 21. Mbatchou also considered the likes of Tennessee, Auburn and USC.

“Florida was right there, but with Texas, it is mainly the people that make it special,” Mbatchou told On3. “I believe fully in coach Sark (Steve Sarkisian), coach Kenny Baker and all those people. I believe they have my best interest in mind.”

Coach Baker was a big part of Texas’ movement in this race.

“Since coach Baker came out to my game, we have been talking a lot, he has sent a lot of mail and I realized how much he really cares about me.”

Mbatchou visited the Longhorns the weekend of October 19, then chose to reopen his commitment a few days later. That visit helped Texas gain momentum in this race.

They stayed consistent, but the Gators got him back on campus and they gave Mbatchou a lot to think about – again. It came down to the Longhorns and the Gators, but the 6-foot-4.5, 280-pounder is excited about playing SEC football in Austin.

“The game day atmosphere is incredible,” Mbatchou added. “They are loud. The canon is mad loud. Texas is a good environment to be in.”

Mbatchou just started playing football this season. It is all about the upside for him. The next Texas commit is the No. 257 overall prospect in the On3 Industry Ranking.
