Arizona State freshman guard Joson Sanon plans to enter NCAA Transfer Portal

Arizona State shooting guard Joson Sanon plans to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal after just one season with the Sun Devils.

The 6’5 scorer signed with ASU as part of its vaunted 2024 recruiting class, choosing Bobby Hurley and Co. over Indiana, Arizona, Providence and others after he reclassified up a year from 2025. In his lone season in Tempe, Sanon was one of the team’s few bright spots, averaging 11.9 points and 3.4 rebounds while playing just over 28 minutes per game.

He, along with former five-star forward Jayden Quaintance, looked to be the program’s building blocks of the future. But after another sub-.500 season under Hurley, Sanon is on the move.

A native of Fall River (Mass.), he ranked as the No. 24 prospect nationally in the Class of 2024, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He was originally committed to rival Arizona before flipping to ASU in May, and also held offers from Kansas, UConn, Kentucky and dozens of others.
