The college basketball world has been rocked by the injury of USC star JuJu Watkins. An apparent knee injury took her out of Monday night’s second-round game against Mississippi State. No definite long-term update has been provided as MRI imaging will take place.

Support from players has come from social media, even those currently in the WNBA. Angel Reese of the Chicago Sky is the latest, taking to X. “Prayers for Juju!” she said while adding a sad face and prayer hands emojis.

There was one season of overlap between Reese and Watkins in the college game. Reese was wrapping up her final season with the LSU Tigers while Watkins was just getting started with the Trojans. Unfortunately, there was no head-to-head matchup between two of the biggest names in the women’s game.

Watkins was ultimately chasing what Reese was able to capture her senior season. LSU won a national championship in 2023, cutting down the nets in Dallas. Nobody likes to see any player go down but somebody with the magnitude of Watkins can completely change the NCAA Tournament outlook.

More information is sure to be available for Watkins after the final buzzer against Mississippi State. Reese will be one of many hoping good news is provided and serious injury was avoided. For now, all she can do is show support for Watkins via social media.

JuJu Watkins ruled out of remainder of Mississippi State matchup

Everyone in Los Angeles held their breath on Monday because of JuJu Watkins. One of college basketball’s top players went down in pain in a second-round game against Mississippi State. Watkins was holding her knee on the ground before being helped back to the USC locker room.

Shortly after, an update on Watkins was provided by the team itself. And it’s not one USC far are going to want to hear. The Trojans announced Watkins will not to return to the game but is still being evaluated by the medical staff.

“JuJu Watkins is being evaluated by USC Keck Medicine staff and will not return to competition in tonight’s NCAA Second Round game,” USC’s Women’s Basketball said via X.

Watkins leaves the game with just three points to her name, going 0-2 from the field. Free throws were how she got on the board, going three of four from the line. You can add two assists and a rebound to the stat line too.
