Julian Sayin scores first career touchdown for Ohio State vs. Western Michigan
Julian Sayin made his Ohio State debut on Saturday against Western Michigan, and it didn’t take long for him to score his first touchdown. After checking into the game with 7:06 remaining, the five-star freshman completed his very first pass to Patrick Gurd for six yards.
A couple plays later, he would top that by finding Bennett Christian downfield for a 55-yard score. Facing fourth-and-1, he hit his man wide open as Christian raced the rest of the way for the score. You can view the moment below.
The touchdown from Sayin put the Buckeyes up 56-0, which would end up being the final score. Those were the only two passes Sayin attempted all day as he finished with a 100% completion rate. He also had one carry that went for five yards.
Originally an Alabama commit, Julian Sayin changed course and signed with Ohio State this offseason following the retirement of Nick Saban. He ranked as the No. 8 overall player and No. 2 quarterback in the 2024 cycle according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Sayin isn’t likely to see much time this season and will likely take a redshirt with both Will Howard and Devin Brown ahead of him on the depth chart. Howard was named the starter this offseason and threw for 292 yards and a touchdown in Saturday’s win.
Still, the Buckeyes clearly believe in Sayin as their quarterback of the future. Howard will exhaust his college eligibility after this season and Brown will have two years remaining. If Sayin does redshirt, he’ll have all four.
Although it was just for a few plays, he showed a glimpse of what things might look like with him taking snaps. Ohio State improved to 2-0 and moves on to face Marshall next week.
