Before kickoff on Saturday, Alabama left tackle Kadyn Proctor was spotted in street clothes, keeping him out of the Western Kentucky matchup. Not an injury anyone on the Crimson Tide side expected heading into the night. Also seen in a sling on his left side, Proctor sustained the injury during warmups.

Even Kalen DeBoer admitted the injury surprised him before giving a brief update on Proctor following the game. He did not give a specific diagnosis but says Alabama will be monitoring Proctor throughout the week.

“We’ll continue to evaluate tomorrow just to see the severity of it. We’ll know more here as the week goes on,” DeBoer said via Charlie Potter of On3’s BOL.

Proctor had a whirlwind of an offseason, transferring to Iowa from Alabama following Nick Saban’s retirement, before returning after spring practice. Despite starting at left tackle all season for the Crimson Tide, Proctor spent fall camp competing for the job alongside Elijah Pritchett.

Now, there is an injury for him to deal with. Alabama will be back on the field next Saturday, facing off against USF. The DeBoer era got off to a great start with a resounding victory against Western Kentucky. Alabama is hoping to earn win No. 2 against the Bulls and doing so with Proctor out there.

Kadyn Proctor calls Alabama “home away from home”

Alabama is Kadyn Proctor‘s home away from home, he said after the Crimson Tide’s fall camp practice on Wednesday.

It’s where the offensive tackle feels most comfortable, which is why he returned to Tuscaloosa after transferring to his home state Iowa Hawkeyes earlier this offseason. One of the main reasons he cited for transferring away from Alabama earlier this offseason was that he was homesick.

“Obviously, I’m away from my family but sometimes there are sacrifices you have to make to be happy,” Proctor said.

The offensive lineman recalled that about a month or two into his freshman season, Tuscaloosa started feeling like it wasn’t the place for him. However, Proctor said that’s in the past, and him and head coach Kalen DeBoer have talked it out upon his return to the program.

“I had apologized because I knew that when he first came here, his first week here, first couple of days, I really wasn’t giving him a chance,” Proctor said. “And I just kind of started that conversation with an apology because I really felt bad. I kind of had my mind set on leaving and [was] not really listening to what he had to say to me.”
