Kansas City Chiefs WR Kadarius Toney scores first NFL touchdown
After a rocky start to his NFL career, Kadarius Toney has been given a fresh start after being traded to the Kansas City Chiefs. The former first-round pick out of Florida had not met expectations with the New York Giants but appears to be fitting in with his new team. And he has finally found the end zone.
Late in the first quarter of a tie game, the Chiefs made their way inside the 10-yard line. While all of Patrick Mahomes‘ go-to weapons were covered, Toney was open on the right side of the field. Toney then caught Mahomes’ pass and walked into the end zone for his first NFL score and a 6-0 Chiefs lead.

“He’ll keep working in,” Chiefs coach Andy Reid said of Toney recently, according to the Kansas City Star. “He just hasn’t played much, so we had him on a kind of number count, snap count, only had a few things in for him. We’ll keep working him in. “I thought last week getting those practices in where he had the practice, the full practice, practice fast, and get to know Pat (Mahomes) and what we do there, get to know the terminology, I thought was important for him. Then, you can start building on some things.”

After being selected by the old regime in New York, Toney had an uneven rookie season — electrifying on the field, but limited in his opportunities. In ten games during the 2021 season, he caught 39 passes for 420 receiving yards.

However, while the new leadership in New York of general manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll have been lauded for their 6-1 start to the season, Toney had indisputably fallen out of favor. He barely saw the field Week 1 against the Tennessee Titans or Week 2 against the Carolina Panthers — catching just two passes — and has been out with a litany of injuries since.
