Bill Self jokes about conversation with Bob Huggins
Bill Self and Bob Huggins have been battling for over a decade in Big 12 basketball play. Their two teams faced off again Saturday and one reporter asked if the two had any special conversations throughout the gameday.
“Special? Special would be a little bit of a reach,” Self said after the game during his press conference. “He asked me if I had any shine. I said ‘na, they only make that in West Virginia.’ Hugs is great, and he had his team ready to play today. There’s no doubt about that. But that’s an NCAA tournament.”
West Virginia put a scare into Kansas in Lawrence, Kan., put the Jayhawks were able to pull out the victory at the end, 76-74.
Joe Toussaint was called for a travel at the end of the game when the Mountaineers had a chance to win the game.

Bill Self provides injury updates after beating Bob Huggins and West Virginia
Starting forward KJ Adams Jr. and starting guard Dajuan Harris both picked up knocks during the game. Bill Self provided an update afterwards about how the two key players are feeling.
“No, no, Dajuan wasn’t [dealing with cramps]; they fell on his foot. Juan’s tough, and for him to say he can’t go back in that’s obviously a big deal,” Self said. “He said he could probably play if there’s overtime. Three minutes is gonna make a huge difference? I mean, so if you could play in overtime, why couldn’t you play now? But that tells me he was hurt. So we’ll probably give him a couple of days off and hope he’s ready to go on Tuesday.”
