Senior guard Jaden Akins returned for a fourth season in East Lansing and has emerged as the team’s leading scorer through two games. His 23-point performance during the season opener is a team-high so far this season but he’s done a little bit of everything so far. He’s averaging 16.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists through the first two games of the season.
Meanwhile, Kansas returned star big man Hunter Dickinson to its roster and is once again expected to be one of the premier big men in the country this season.
South Dakota State transfer guard Zeke Mayo has emerged as a major scoring threat for the Jayhawks after scoring 21 points against UNC on Friday. He’s averaging four made 3-pointers per game heading into Tuesday’s blockbuster matchup.
This will be the 11th all-time matchup between the two programs. The series is split down the middle at five wins a piece, so Tuesday’s victor will emerge with bragging rights over the other in the battle between two of college basketball’s most historic programs.
