Kasen Weisman, 2023 quarterback, bracing for recruiting to take off
LAWRENCEVILLE Ga. – Kasen Weisman of Douglasville (Ga.) South Paulding High School jumped into the 2021 football season with a bang on Thursday night.
The 2023 quarterback electrified the crowd gathered at Bethesda Park in Lawrenceville, Ga. – the de facto home of Brookwood High School’s football team – with an 80-yard gallop on the first play of the scrimmage.
It didn’t count. A flag brought the play back. It wouldn’t have gone in the record books even it had since Thursday’s game was only an exhibition, but it was a fileable piece of evidence for Weisman.
The 6-foot-3, 190-pound quarterback is on the cusp of a breakout on the recruiting trail. Weisman has offers from California, Jacksonville State and Eastern Kentucky already.
There are multiple schools chomping at the bit to offer Weisman. The catch is, Weisman has only started five official varsity football games, as COVID-19 and injuries have robbed Weisman of much of his first two seasons in high school.
Power Five offers await Kasen Weisman?
Many major programs hesitate to offer upperclassmen with limited playing experience. For Weisman, it’s a waiting game. For now, he will focus on playing in games and being productive.
“They love me, just a lot of big schools don’t offer without playing games,” Weisman said. “I need to get some games under my belt and win.”
Weisman has an idea of who he wants to hear from as he gains experience. He has dreamed of playing in the SEC. As a result, he toured the SEC during the summer making multiple visits and taking part in multiple camps along the way.
According to Weisman, he visited Georgia, Auburn, Ole Miss, Kentucky, Penn State, Virginia Tech and Coastal Carolina between June and the end of July.
Weisman has heard from multiple schools in the Pac 12, including USC.
Home state love for Kasen Weisman?
The home state favorites left an impression on Weisman. The nostalgic reasons applied. Weisman feels his playing style would fit well with UGA offensive coordinator Todd Monken’s air raid, read-option attack.

“Georgia obviously stood out, I grew up watching them and they’re in the SEC,” Weisman said. “They have some of the nicest facilities in the country. It’d be a dream for me to play for Todd Monken and all of them over there. God knows my plan. Wherever I’m going to end up, hopefully, I like it there and it works out for me.”
Travel not an issue
Both of Weisman’s parents are flight attendants. As a child, having flight attendants for parents allowed Weisman to have some unique experiences.
“I’ve been to a lot of countries, I’ve gotten to experience a lot of things and I’ve had a great childhood,” Weisman said. “I’ve been very blessed to have great parents.”
His parents’ mobility allows Weisman to think nationally with his recruitment. There isn’t a place in the country his parent couldn’t come see him.
“It helps a lot, especially with the recruiting process being able to go all over the country for free,” Weisman said. “It’s especially helpful to my parents. It opens up USC and California and all those schools over there on the west coast.
“My dad said I could go there and live the Cali life and he’d be at every game every Saturday, so it’s pretty nice… That is going to play a factor in where I end up picking to go to school because I believe they’ll be able to watch me play every Saturday wherever I go.”
