SMU transfer Kendric Davis receiving interest from monster number of teams
Former SMU guard Kendric Davis has only been in the transfer portal a couple days, but he’s already getting an insane amount of interest.
Davis tweeted a graphic Wednesday featuring a whopping 24 teams that have reached out since he entered the portal on Monday. Duke, North Carolina, Kansas, Gonzaga, Villanova, Texas Tech, Texas, Houston, TCU, Florida, Purdue, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, DePaul, Xavier, Texas A&M, NC State, Memphis, Maryland, Oregon, BYU, Kansas State, Georgetown and Louisville are all expressing interest in him.
One team that stands out above the rest is TCU, where Davis started his career. He played one year with the Horned Frogs in 2018-19, averaging 6.3 points that season before taking his talents to SMU to play for Tim Jankovich. Jankovich announced his retirement earlier this offseason, and the Mustangs moved to hire Georgia State coach Rob Lanier to replace him.
Davis led SMU in scoring the last two years, averaging 19.0 points per game in 2020-21 and an AAC-leading 19.4 points per contest this past season. He’s shaping up to be one of the most sought-after transfers in the portal, and that’s evident based on the amount of teams who’ve reached out so early in the process. Upon his entry, CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein reported Davis is also testing the NBA Draft waters while maintaining his eligibility. He’d have two years of eligibility remaining if he decides to use his COVID-19 year.
