WR Kevin Coleman shocks many by committing to Jackson State
SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Few were impacted more by coaching changes during their recruitment more than four-star receiver Kevin Coleman out of St. Louis St. Mary’s.
Coleman had a long list of schools but narrowed his focus to Florida State, Oregon, Miami and USC. And with coaching changes in Eugene, Coral Gables and Los Angeles, it impacted his decision-making process greatly.
But in the end, Kevin Coleman shocked the world by picking Jackson State Saturday at the All-American Bowl.
“Prime Time,” Coleman said when asked why he committed to Jackson State. “Why not play for the best? He inspired me. Why not be taught by the best? He played both ways. He did everything I want to do.”
Sanders took to social media to react to the news that Coleman was heading to Jackson State. He was admittedly fired up.

“I’m in my family room doing the Nae Nae as u read this,” Sanders said in a tweet.
It was the second shocking pledge in this recruiting cycle for Jackson State.
Five-Star Plus+ Suwanee (Ga.) Collins Hill athlete Travis Hunter pulled off one of the biggest recruiting shockers ever on National Signing Day when he signed with Deion Sanders‘ squad.
Most observers had Coleman pegged to pick Miami on Saturday. Jackson State was never mentioned by Coleman throughout the week as a possibility. He even did an interview with media members on Friday talking about his finalists.
The star athlete out of St. Louis St. Mary’s moves to Mississippi next week and he will be ready to make plays for Deion Sanders.
“Kevin is a very exciting player that can do a little bit of everything,” St. Mary’s head coach Ken Turner told On3. “He is a fierce competitor that works hard, and he has all the tools. Kevin will be ready to do big things.”
As a senior, coach Turner lined up Coleman all over the field. He started quarterback three games, then he was moved all over the field from quarterback, running back and wide receiver.
