In the middle of the ejection of Coastal Carolina’s Kevin Schnall during Game 2 of the finals in the Men’s College World Series, a different umpire fell down in the midst of the interaction. Now, postgame, Schnall has gone after that separate official in his comments.

Following the 5-3 loss to LSU, Schnall addressed several questions about his first-inning ejection by Angel Campos at home plate. That included the separate umpire who fell during the argument between Schnall and the three umpires in total, who Schnall said tripped over himself and then looked to place blame on him with further penalty past the ejection.

“There was a guy who came in, extremely aggressively, tripped over Campos’ foot. Embarrassed in front of 25,000. Immediately goes two-game suspension and said bumping the umpire. Immediately does that,” explained Schnall. “There was no bump. He was embarrassed. I shouldn’t be held accountable for a grown man’s athleticism.”

“They’ll retract it, though. Because now it’s excessive and the reason why it was excessive, because I was trying to say I didn’t bump him,” Schnall said. “It is what it is.”

Campos threw Schnall out, as well as 1B Matt Schilling eventually, in the bottom of the first inning, controversially at that, for arguing balls and strikes after a warning he was looking for clarification on. The Chanticleers’ head coach would come out of the dugout to argue with him further about with the first and third-base umpires meeting there as well. That third-base umpire comes into frame and, after a bump with Schnall, trips at the 55-second mark and, per the skipper, does so on Campos’ own foot. When he gets up, he throws up a two sign, signaling the apparent two-game suspension, that Schnall argued further with all the officials then being involved.

All in all, this was a bad look for just about everyone involved, especially that early on in a game with a national championship on the line. It was especially so, though, for this umpire supposedly with Schnall calling him out afterward for tripping over himself.

NCAA issues statement explaining controversial ejections of Coastal Carolina coaches in CWS final

This year’s edition of the Men’s College World Series was no exception to controversy. So much so, the NCAA was forced to issue a detailed statement explaining the latest incident in today’s final game.

The NCAA issued a three-paragraph statement addressing the controversial double-ejection of Coastal Carolina’s Kevin Schnall and Matt Schilling in the first inning of Game 2 in the best-of-three series versus LSU. You can read the full statement below:

“NCAA Playing Rule 3-6-f-Note 1 states that balls, strikes, half swings or decisions about hit-by-pitch situtations are not to be argued,” the NCAA statement read. “After a warning, any player or coach who continued to argue bals, strikes, half swings, or a hit-by-pitch situation shall be ejected from the game.”
