Kevin Schnall issued multi-game suspension after controversial ejection in CWS Finals, Coastal Carolina vs. LSU

On Sunday, Coastal Carolina head coach Kevin Schnall was ejected from Game 2 of the College World Series against LSU in the bottom of the first inning. Coastal Carolina lost Game 1 of the series on Saturday and must win today to force a Game 3.
Normally, when head coaches are ejected, they only serve a suspension during the game they were suspended and are allowed to return for the team’s following game. However, in Schnall’s case, he was assessed an additional two-game suspension on top of Game 2 due to “prolonged arguing.”
In short, even if Coastal Carolina wins on Sunday, Schnall will not be able to coach the team in Game 3. ESPN commentator Karl Ravech provided further details on Schnall’s extended suspension during the broadcast.
“From the NCAA, the word on Coach Schnall, he was arguing balls and strikes. The umpire then gave a warning. Once you get a warning, you can’t come out of the dugout to argue. He was ejected,” Ravech said. “… Once he was ejected, you need to leave, and then he came out to argue again, or never left. He was given an additional two game suspension, so he is gone for the rest of this series.
“So prolonged arguing is the reason given for the two-game suspension. Schilling was ejected for the comments. Anyone other than the head coach [receives] a one-game suspension on top of the ejection, an additional two games for prolonged arguing.”
Coastal Carolina first base coach Matt Schilling will serve a three-game suspension on top of his ejection from Game 2. Assistants and players must automatically serve an additional one-game suspension following an ejection, per the rules.

Alas, due to the nature of his ejection, Schilling’s suspension will technically be three games long, even though Coastal Carolina only has a maximum of one game left in its season. Schilling was ejected after complaining to a nearby umpire about Schnall’s ejection.
As for Schnall, he stepped onto the field to seemingly complain about an umpire’s strike call. The umpire motioned for him to back up and when Schnall didn’t obey, the umpire ejected him from the game.
From there, Schnall stormed onto the field, going after the umpire who had thrown him out of the game. Another official attempted to step between Schnall and the umpire he was going after, and was knocked to the ground in the process.
Coastal Carolina recruiting coordinator Chad Oxendine is serving as the Chanticleers’ head coach in Schnall’s absence. He was the head coach at Longwood from 2022-24.
