Keyshawn Johnson, Vince Young debate whether Texas or USC will win next title
Keyshawn Johnson and Vince Young are both passionate about their alma maters, and they each believe their football program will be hoisting their next national title before the other.
Of course, Johnson had an illustrious career with the USC Trojans, while Young brought a title to Texas and is etched in history as a member of the Longhorns. Debating on ESPN First Take, the duo argued why their schools will find success before the other’s.
“I have to roll with — hopefully we’ll get there first. But it’s going to be tight,” stated Young. “It’s going to be a lot of hard work. It’s a lot of moving faces. With this new college stuff, trades — not trades, but transfers. I mean, it’s tough to even understand what direction.
“But I do love what Coach Sark (Steve Sarkisian) is doing right now. He’s recruiting. And we are not just recruiting in Texas, we’re recruiting all over the place. So, to have the opportunity to bring kids from Florida to Texas, kids from Alabama — all over the place, is going to be a major deal for us, especially moving forward in the future.”
While Steve Sarkisian is impressing Young in his second season with the Longhorns, Lincoln Riley has Johnson’s attention after a transformative offseason for the Trojans.

“Yeah, I think we’ll get back first,” stated Johnson. “We wound up clipping the nemesis from Oklahoma in Lincoln Riley, who used to just take them to the woodshed every chance he had when he was at Oklahoma.
“Now, as you can see what he’s doing out west with us VY — bringing in players from all over the country with this NIL situation. Transfer portal. There’s no question that this football program is going to be back on track quick, fast and in a hurry. Because if not, we’ll be sending him right back to Oklahoma.”
Indisputably, Riley was a terror for Texas faithful — the former Sooners coach took care of business against the Longhorns more often than not during his time in the Big 12. However, Texas won’t have to deal with him any longer, unless an unlikely College Football Playoff or bowl matchup takes place between the two squads.
Nevertheless, Vince Young and Keyshawn Johnson were never going to pick the other’s school to win a title before their’s — and that’s the way it should be. They’re both proud of the direction their former programs are heading in, and exciting times are ahead for both USC and Texas.
