Khordae Sydnor, Zaylin Wood injury updates: Latest on availability of Vanderbilt defenders
Vanderbilt coach Clark Lea offered a pair of injury updates during his weekly press conference on defensive linemen Khordae Sydnor and Zaylin Wood. The Commodores (2-1) have a big time matchup coming up this weekend against No. 7 Missouri.
Sydnor, a transfer from Purdue, has missed the past two weeks with an ankle injury. Lea revealed that he returned to practice this week but did not say one way or another whether he will play against the Tigers, officially deeming him questionable.
“Khordae, he’s gonna be working back in this week,” the coach said. “He’s questionable for the game, but I’m hoping there’s some level of availability there. I feel really good with where he’s progressed.”
Sydnor was named a starter for the Commodores coming out of fall camp. However, he recorded just one tackle in the season-opening win against Virginia Tech as he left the game due to the injury.

As for Wood, he suffered an ankle injury in the first half of last week’s loss to Georgia State. Lea had a less positive update on the senior as he does not expect him to play.

“Zaylin probably won’t be available,” he said. “He’s working through an ankle and it’s just gonna take a little time.”
Wood totaled seven tackles and one sack in the season opener but has not recorded any stats since. With him likely out, the defensive line will need to look for others to step up.
Vanderbilt is looking for a bounce back on Saturday after suffering the upset to the Panthers this past weekend. The Commodores did not win an SEC game all of last season and will look to change that this season.
Having both Khordae Sydnor and Zaylin Wood back from injury would certainly help in that endeavor, and we’ll await more news on their status ahead of this weekend. Kickoff between Vanderbilt and Missouri is set for 4:15 p.m. ET on Saturday.
