Kirby Smart reveals what makes Hugh Freeze-led offenses tough to stop
Hugh Freeze is quite the offensive mind and Georgia head coach Kirby Smart acknowledged Freeze-led offenses were tough to stop.
The coaches will square off this year, Freeze’s first at the helm at Auburn, on Sept. 30 at Jordan Hare Stadium. Smart has to prepare to battle a raucous road environment and Freeze’s offense, which is expected to give Auburn a boost in 2023.
Basically, Smart has to prepare for a top tier offensive attack out of the Tigers.
“He did a tremendous job in the RPO game,” Smart said, via AL.com. “He’s got great belief in his players from the system, his players believe in him. He’s a really good leader and a great football coach.”
Of course, Georgia has one of the best defenses in the country. It was a big reason why the Bulldogs won two straight national titles and are the favorites for a third consecutive championship.
Auburn would love to return to the postseason in a high quality bowl game and maybe pull off a big upset. Georgia is favored to take the whole thing once again.

But Freeze and Smart going head to head this fall is definitely a matchup to watch once the calendar turns to September.
Hugh Freeze knows the challenge, stakes at Auburn
Freeze even joked about the consequences of a slow rebuilding process compared to the fast track to winning.
“If we’re not in that top-10 range, they’ll probably be firing me in Year 4 or Year 5,” Freeze said with a half laugh, via ESPN. “But you know that coming in. … The administration, John Cohen has been awesome, President Roberts, I think everybody knows they’ve gotta give us a chance to get a couple top classes in here. If we don’t do that, and are able to still win it, it would be a miracle.”
At this point, it’s up to Freeze to exceed expectations, and probably in a short amount of time.
“To develop young men to go out into society that have learned valuable, valuable lessons from this coaching staff and from playing experiences. Both good and bad,” Freeze said of his vision at Auburn. “And, hopefully, they learn from the times we’ve made mistakes (as well as) the times we got it right. Learn your beliefs truly drive your behaviors, which will create some type of habit that will give you a result.”
