Kirby Smart reveals how he prepares pregame speech for big games
The Georgia Bulldogs and head coach Kirby Smart are preparing for a massive game this weekend when they’re set to travel on the road to take on the Alabama Crimson Tide.
Ahead of that game, Smart shared his process for coming up with pregame speeches, explaining that he doesn’t sit down to write them. Instead, it’s more of an organic process.
“Yeah, don’t usually write much down,” Kirby Smart said. “Just kind of think of things during the week. Things that we did well. Things that you can be really positive about and reassure them that they’ve checked that box. That list grows the closer we get to the game. My thoughts grow a little more the night before. It’s not like a set time where I sit down and do anything.”
One thing that has been clear over the time that Smart has spent at Georgia, it’s that he has been able to keep his team focused on the field. The Bulldogs now haven’t lost a game in the regular season since 2020. During that stretch, the Bulldogs have also managed to win multiple national championships in what has been a remarkable run.
Finding a way to motivate his Georgia team this week probably won’t be overly difficult. After all, this game against Alabama is a rematch of last season’s SEC Championship Game, which Alabama won and kept the Bulldogs out of the College Football Playoff in the process. That’s plenty of motivation, even before the reality that this is an AP top-5 game that will shape the SEC race in 2024.

Given all of the context around this game, it shouldn’t be too tough for Kirby Smart to come up with an excellent pregame speech for his team.
Kirby Smart describes how strange it will be to coach against Alabama without Nick Saban
This season’s game will be the first time Kirby Smart goes up against Alabama without Nick Saban on the opposing sideline. Now, Smart has shared that he doesn’t expect the change to be overly strange to him.
“I don’t expect it to be strange,” Smart said. “That’s just the normal progression. I think it’s strange going back there sometimes because I lived there or our kids were born there. We lived there for nine years and had such great experiences there.”
Georgia and Alabama will kickoff at 7:30 p.m. EST in Tuscaloosa. As of now, it’s the biggest game of the 2024 season and all eyes will be on these two teams.
