Kirk Herbstreit addresses who is the best SEC team
The SEC is loaded with talented teams in 2024, and they have been beating up on each other so far this year. With a few weeks in the regular season remaining, there are no unbeaten teams in the SEC.
Georgia, Texas A&M, Texas, Tennessee and LSU all have one loss in league play. Alabama and Ole Miss are right up there as far as being among the SEC’s best, despite having two. ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit was asked Saturday morning on SportsCenter which SEC team is the best.
He didn’t provide a definitive answer but shared that one team in particular has displayed the highest ceiling so far this year.
“When Georgia gets mad and decides to really crank it up, they’re as good as it is,” Kirk Herbstreit said.
Texas has also displayed a high ceiling, but it’s hard to go with the Longhorns when they lost at home to Georgia. Of course you can also put Alabama in the conversation thanks to its win over the Bulldogs.

Outside of the one-loss teams, Ole Miss and Alabama have also looked really good at times this year, even if they do already have a couple of losses.
Ultimately, Herbstreit feels that it is too early to name the best team in the SEC. Instead, he expects the process to work itself out over the next few weeks.
“Texas is interesting. I mean we saw that game with Georgia and Texas. These next two or three weeks will tell us everything we need to know,” Herbstreit said. “Georgia goes to Knoxville next week. What a game day that will be next week. It’s really more of, not the potential. It’s who can be the most consistent to be that best team and play up to their best ability.”
We will know a lot more about the SEC and who the best team is after Saturday’s game. LSU is hosting Alabama Saturday night, while Ole Miss is hosting Georgia Saturday afternoon.
