Kirk Herbstreit’s top-performing coaches from Week 11
Clark Lea, HC, Vanderbilt
The Commodores entered Week 11 winless in SEC play, but found a way to claim their first conference victory with a 24-21 road win against No. 24 Kentucky. Not only was it their first SEC win this season, but it snapped a 26-game conference losing streak dating back to 2019.
Joe Gillespie, DC, TCU
The Horned Frogs defense held Texas to its lowest scoring output all season in a 17-10 win on Saturday. The Longhorns finished with just 199 yards and went 1-of-13 on their third down attempts as TCU continued its undefeated season to improve to 10-0.
Kalen Deboer, HC, Washington
Deboer and the Huskies ended the College Football Playoff hopes of Oregon on Saturday with a 37-34 win to improve to 8-2 in his first season in Seattle. After a 62-yard touchdown pass from Michael Penix to Taj Davis tied the game with three minutes to go, Peyton Henry nailed the game-winning field goal from 43 yards.
Chris Klieman, HC, Kansas State
Klieman overcame an early injury to quarterback Adrian Martinez as K-State bounced back from last week’s loss for a dominant 31-3 victory against Baylor. Will Howard stepped up in place of the injured Martinez to throw three touchdown passes.
Jeff Hafley, HC, Boston College
Hafley led the Eagles to a 21-20 upset victory against No. 16 NC State as Emmett Morehead found freshman Joseph Griffin for the game-winning touchdown with 14 seconds left. It was their second conference win this season, matching their total from a year ago.

Jedd Fisch, HC, Arizona
Washington wasn’t the only team to end College Football Playoff hopes on Saturday, as Arizona handed No. 12 UCLA a 34-28 loss. The win snapped a four-game losing streak for the Wildcats (4-6) and also keeps their hopes of making a bowl alive with two games remaining.
What Mora has accomplished this season at UConn is nothing short of remarkable. After winning a combined four games the past four seasons, the Huskies are 6-5 this year. They achieved bowl eligibility for the first time since 2015 with a 36-33 victory against Liberty this past weekend, their third straight win.
Cadillac Williams, interim HC, Auburn
The scene at Auburn this weekend was something to behold. In just his second game as interim head coach following the firing of Bryan Harsin, Williams led the Tigers to a 13-10 victory against Texas A&M. The win has the fan base buzzing, and has even led to some speculation that Williams could make a push for the full-time job.
Billy Napier, HC, Florida
Napier was another coach who achieved bowl eligibility for his program with a 38-6 blowout of South Carolina on Saturday. It’s Napier’s first season in Gainesville, and his performance so far should have fans excited for the future.
