College football analyst Kirk Herbstreit has laid down the law on the best performing teams across the country in Week 8. His list was headlined by a certain Pac-12 power, but included a diverse group of programs from across the country. So, check out the seven teams Herbie pegged as the most impressive from the last weekend.

1. Oregon Ducks

Oregon leapt back into the top-10 nationally last week for winning every game since that opening-night debacle vs. Georgia. Against UCLA this past weekend, the Ducks kept on chugging and sort of blew the Bruins out of the pond. Bo Nix is rolling at quarterback and first-year coach Dan Lanning has Oregon with the inside track at a Pac-12 title.

2. Oklahoma State Cowboys

Oklahoma State responded to their first loss of the year in an overtime barn-burner vs. TCU by toppling a frisky Texas team by a touchdown in Stillwater. Few teams in the country played better football than the Longhorns with starting QB Quinn Ewers healthy. But the Cowboys rode them out of town regardless.

3. LSU Tigers

LSU is surging. The Tigers took care of Ole Miss in dominant fashion at home, 45-20, to get back on track. Brian Kelly has the bayou cookin’ with a 4-1 SEC record and a chance to snatch the SEC West lead at Alabama this weekend. Win that one and the Tigers can start dreaming about the SEC title game in year one of the Kelly era. Seriously.

4. TCU Horned Frogs

TCU just put together the most impressive four-game stretch in the country. The Horned Frogs put down Oklahoma, Kansas, Oklahoma State and Kansas State teams that were all ranked at the time of the games. Heck of a start by Sonny Dykes and co.

5. Duke Blue Devils

Duke’s up-and-down 2022 campaign continued with the team’s most complete performance of the season. The Blue Devils went into Hard Rock Stadium and trounced the Miami Hurricanes. Mainly thanks to Miami’s gifts of eight turnovers and one game-ending injury for QB Tyler Van Dyke. Nonetheless, an impressive outing from Duke.

6. South Carolina Gamecocks

Shane Beamer has the Gamecocks rolling in year two. After taking advantage of a Kentucky team without Will Levis, South Carolina only continued the momentum by beating Texas A&M last weekend. This group even snuck into the top-25, too.

7. Boise State Broncos

BSU picked up its second win in a row this past weekend, with the latter of the two victims being Fresno State, who was doubled up by the Broncos 40-20.
