With the regular season and conference championships wrapped up, all that’s left for college football is the postseason which starts today with the selection of the College Football Playoff field. Things played out in a way over the weekend where there’s room for discussion as to who the final four teams could be. However, Kirk Herbstreit’s final prediction for the CFP field reflects a standing that we could very well expect to see later today.

Herbstreit naturally has Georgia and Michigan in his top two slots after winning their conference crowns. From there, he left TCU in place at No. 3 and switched USC out at No. 4 with Ohio State. That left Alabama and Tennessee as his first two teams on the outside looking on.

  2. Michigan Wolverines
  3. TCU Horned Frogs
  4. Ohio State Buckeyes
  5. Alabama Crimson Tide
  6. Tennessee Volunteers

“Not real sure how they’ll handle three and four,” admitted Herbstreit in his tweet. “They could be flipped.”

The losses for the Horned Frogs and Trojans opened several conversations up over the course of the weekend. Many want to know just how much impact the defeats will have considering both teams had earned the right to play in their conference championships unlike Ohio State or Alabama.

Still, USC’s loss being their second on top of the fashion in which it came has made their swap with the Buckeyes a fairly predictable move. That along with TCU’s loss, though, may not be enough in the end to get Alabama or even a team like Tennessee back into the playoff picture in time.

In the end, no one will truly know what the committee is thinking until noon EST today. With that said, Herbstreit’s prediction likely won’t be too far off from what we see come the final release later today.
