Kirk Herbstreit reveals Scottie Scheffler as ESPN College GameDay guest picker in Austin
ESPN College GameDay will have a unique guest picker for this week’s action, with former Texas golfer and current PGA Tour superstar Scottie Scheffler set to make the picks on this week’s show.
Host Kirk Herbstreit announced the news while making an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show on Thursday afternoon.
Scheffler is an excellent choice, a widely recognizable figure with obvious ties to this week’s featured matchup: Georgia vs. Texas. He golfed at Texas, where he had some remarkable success, before turning pro in 2018.
Since then, all Scheffler has done is win.
Scheffler has now won 13 events on the PGA Tour as a professional, including a number of majors. He has won the Masters twice, including this year’s edition. Needless to say, when it comes to having a championship mentality, he’s up there with anyone in sport.
And both Georgia and Texas are hoping to demonstrate that championship mentality with College GameDay in town.
As for the game itself, it’ll be the first time the two programs will meet as conference foes, and the game seems like it’ll be a tremendous contest.
Additionally, Texas and Georgia have only faced off five times in the long, storied history of both programs. With Texas holding a 4-1 advantage in the series following their 28-21 win over Georgia during the 2018 season in the Sugar Bowl.

That one, if you’ll recall, had a bit of a pre-game dust-up between the two mascots, Uga and Bevo.
Both programs have come a long way since that last meeting and will get used to facing off a lot more now that Texas has joined the SEC.
For example, Kirby Smart has since led the Bulldogs to two national championship wins in the last three seasons, while Steve Sarkisian led Texas to its first College Football Playoff appearance last season and the program’s best record since 2009.
Now, the anticipation will continue to build, as Texas and Georgia will be squaring off for the first time both as members of the SEC, and it’ll be a high-stakes matchup between two of the top teams in country. The winner will set themselves up nicely over the rest of the 2024 campaign, as well.
College GameDay will be there to take it all in, with Scottie Scheffler helping anchor the picks segment.
