College GameDay analyst Kirk Herbstreit has revealed his updated top four and next two teams in college football following Week 10. The action saw many top teams either lose or narrowly avoid an upset, leading to an interesting week ahead as far as rankings are concerned.

Herbstreit’s top four after Week 10

  1. Georgia Bulldogs
  2. Alabama Crimson Tide
  3. Oregon Ducks
  4. Ohio State Buckeyes

Georgia might have started off slow against Missouri, but the Bulldogs came away with yet another blowout victory. As the end of the year nears, nobody is even remotely close to being on Georgia’s level. Herbstreit even put an extra space between Georgia and the rest of the top four in his tweet.

Alabama was a big favorite against LSU, but the game ultimately came down to the wire. LSU led 7-0 at the end of the first quarter, but Alabama ultimately won 20-14. Despite narrowly beating LSU, Herbstreit still ranks Alabama highly after Week 10.

Oregon also started slow against Washington, trailing 9-3 after the first quarter. But Oregon outscored Washington 23-7 the rest of the way, coming away with a 26-16 victory. Ohio State also struggled a bit against Nebraska, holding onto a 26-17 victory. Outside of Georgia, it was really an underwhelming week for teams at the top of the rankings.

Herbstreit’s next two

5. Michigan Wolverines
6. Oklahoma Sooners

Michigan’s defense shut down Indiana, only allowing seven points. The Wolverines came away with a 29-7 victory. With Michigan State falling to Purdue, Michigan is right back in the hunt for the College Football Playoff after Week 10 according to Herbstreit.

Oklahoma was on a bye this week, but the Sooners remain 9-0 and simply not playing this week probably helped them due to the shaky performance from many top teams. The Sooners are in a golden position to rise over the final weeks.

Herbstreit did not rank Cincinnati, as the Bearcats barely squeaked out a victory over Tulsa. Cincinnati needs to rack up style points right now, and needing a goal line stand to keep the game from overtime against Tulsa isn’t the way to do that.

The second College Football Playoff rankings will be released on Tuesday night.
