Kirk Herbstreit reveals top performing players from Week 8

Another exciting weekend of college football is in the books. After the Week 8 action, College GameDay analyst Kirk Herbstreit has revealed his nine top performing players from the weekend.

Herbstreit’s top performers from Week 8

1. Sam Hartman, Wake Forest QB: Hartman found the end zone six times as Wake Forest put up a whopping 70 points on Army. Wake Forest came away with the 70-56 victory. Hartman threw for 458 yards and five touchdowns, adding 22 yards and a score on the ground. His strong performance puts him at the top of Herbstreit’s list of top players from Week 8.

2. Kayvon Thibodeaux, Oregon DE: Oregon held UCLA to 110 rushing yards on 45 carries, which is just 2.4 yards per carry. In the win, Thibodeaux dominated on the defensive side of the ball. He totaled nine tackles, two sacks, 4.5 tackles for loss, and one quarterback hurry. Thibodeaux is making a strong case to be the top player taken in the next NFL Draft.

3. Tyler Van Dyke, Miami QB: Miami came away with a close 31-30 victory over NC State on Saturday. Van Dyke threw for 325 yards and four touchdowns in the victory. The Hurricanes have turned to Van Dyke after D’Eriq King’s injury, and he is running with the opportunity.

4. Leo Chenal, Wisconsin ILB: Purdue rushed for -13 yards on 24 carries on Saturday thanks to a strong performance from Wisconsin’s defense. Chenal had a monster day with nine tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, and 3.5 sacks. His strong performance earned him Week 8 honors from Herbstreit as one of the top defensive players of the weekend.

5. Xavier Hutchinson, Iowa State WR: Oklahoma State’s loss came courtesy of Iowa State in Week 8. Cyclones quarterback Brock Purdy threw for 307 yards and two touchdowns, and his favorite target was Hutchinson. On the day, Hutchinson caught 12 passes for 125 yards and two touchdowns.

6. Malik Williams, Appalachian State WR: Appalachian State and Coastal Carolina kicked off on Wednesday night, and the Mountaineers came away with a 30-27 upset victory. In the win, Williams starred with 10 receptions for 206 yards and a touchdown.

7. Chase Brown, Illinois RB: One of the top upsets of the weekend was Illinois taking down Penn State in nine overtimes. Herbstreit named Brown one of Week 8’s top players after he rushed for 223 yards and a touchdown on 33 carries. he also had one reception for six yards.

8. B.J. Baylor, Oregon State RB: Oregon State scored 28 points in the second half to squeak by with a 42-34 victory over Utah in Week 8. Baylor rushed for 152 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries, averaging eight yards per rush in the win.

9. Garrett Shrader, Syracuse QB: Syracuse pulled off a big upset on Saturday, coming away with a 41-36 victory over Virginia Tech. Shrader had a dynamic game in both the passing and running game. He threw for 236 yards and two touchdowns. Shrader also led the game with 174 rushing yards and three scores on the ground on 22 carries, earning him honors as one of Herbstreit’s top players from Week 8.
