Kowacie Reeves baptizes Ryan Young in Georgia Tech vs. Duke matchup
When it comes to college basketball fans, everybody loves a good dunk. ACC play is in full swing and Georgia Tech shooting guard Kowacie Reeves had one of the best posters of the year on Saturday against the Duke Blue Devils. In the first half, Reeves went baseline and detonated at the rim on Ryan Young, in what will undoubtedly go down as one of the best dunks of the college basketball season.
Georgia Tech battled Duke for most of the game and even led late in the first half and in the second half. But the Blue Devils battled back and ultimately pulled away in the final minutes, winning 84-79. Reeves finished the game with nine points, four rebounds, two assists, one steal, and one block. Still, Damon Stoudamire has to be proud of the effort, toughness, and resiliency he saw from his group on Saturday night. That’ll be a big game for his program moving forward.
Big man Kyle Filipowski carried Duke for much of the game, stuffing the stat sheet with 30 points, 13 rebounds, four assists, two steals, and two blocks. Jeremy Roach injured his right knee for a few minutes late in the second half. He was evaluated by Duke trainers for a minute on the bench, before heading to the locker room. Roach came back in the game for a few seconds late in the second half, but then left the game again for good. Following the game, Duke head coach Jon Scheyer said they would “get him checked out in the next couple of days.”
The Yellow Jackets upset Duke earlier in the season, 72-68. So, there’s clearly something about the matchup that Georgia Tech seems to thrive off of.

More on Kowacie Reeves and his basketball career
Kowacie Reeves averaged 8.5 points and 2.6 rebounds for Florida as a sophomore last year.
While Reeves saw more playing time as a sophomore, he didn’t quite take the leap many Florida fans had hoped. His three-point shooting, in particular, was a bit disappointing, as Reeves finished the season hitting just 26.2% from downtown.
Reeves thrives attacking the rim off the bounce, getting downhill with his driving ability.
Before enrolling at Florida and then later hitting the transfer portal, Kowacie Reeves was ranked as a four-star prospect and the No. 42 player in the nation in the 2021 recruiting class, according to the On3 Industry Rankings. He was the No. 10 shooting guard in the class and the No. 4 player in the state of Georgia, hailing from Macon (Ga.) Westside.
