Kyle McCord on Ohio State losing to Michigan, Syracuse beating Miami: 'Everything comes full circle'
Syracuse QB Kyle McCord never forgot his time at Ohio State before transferring to play for the Orange this season.
When he was asked if he took any satisfaction in beating fellow transfer QB Cam Ward and Miami coupled with his former school losing to Michigan, McCord didn’t go off with a long answer.
He kept it short and sweet.
“Everything comes full circle,” McCord said, causing laughter between his teammates and reporters.
McCord led Syracuse to a 42-38 upset win over Miami while Michigan stunned Ohio State 13-10 in Columbus.
There are plenty of theories as to why McCord left Ohio State. Sure, he threw the game ending interception in last year’s loss to Michigan that ultimately kept the Buckeyes out of the playoff.
McCord left after the season in what he called a “business decision.”
“I mean you guys know it just as well as I do. At the end of the day, the top level of college football and then especially on to the pros,” McCord said. “I mean it’s a business, and at the end of the day Ohio State had to make a business decision that they felt like was best for them and I had to do the same thing.
“Unfortunately, it just wasn’t meant to be for next year but at the end of the day I felt like I put together some solid games and had some good tape. So I was confident when I went in the portal I’d find a good home.”

Ohio State ultimately landed Will Howard in the portal as a grad transfer and still have national championship expectations. The playoff run just got harder though.
McCord put together career highs at Syracuse for a 9-3 squad this season. While they won’t make the playoff, Orange secured a quality bowl game and McCord can run it back next season.
He finished the regular season with 4,326 yards, 29 touchdowns, 12 interceptions and a 65.8% completion percentage.
So did McCord take some satisfaction that Ohio State couldn’t get it done against Michigan after seemingly pivoting their QB plans? Maybe, maybe not. But he certainly couldn’t hide the the smile on a good night.
