Lane Kiffin cosigns argument taking shot at College Football Playoff committee, advocates Ole Miss over Alabama
Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin is hard at work making the case for his team to get in the College Football Playoff. The Rebels are one of three teams in the SEC with three losses still with a chance to earn an at-large bid along with Alabama and South Carolina.
Kiffin took to X, formerly Twitter, on Sunday evening to share what appeared to be a Facebook post making the case for Ole Miss over the Crimson Tide and Gamecocks. It argued that head-to-head results should eliminate South Carolina from contention as it lost to both of the other two teams.
It would then go on to compare Ole Miss and Alabama, which did not play each other during the regular season. The post argued using common opponents and point differential to make its point, noting that Ole Miss was +296 in its wins this season compared to +252 for the Crimson Tide.
The post went on to compare the two teams’ wins against Georgia and South Carolina. It stated that because the Rebels won both contests by more points, they were more deserving of an at-large than Alabama.
Of course, many took exception to the post from Lane Kiffin and pointed out the flaws in the College Football Playoff argument. For example, Ole Miss’ three losses this season come against Kentucky, LSU and Florida, all teams that will likely end the year unranked.

Alabama isn’t without questionable losses either though, having fell against both Vanderbilt and Oklahoma. However, the Crimson Tide come in at No. 16 in strength of schedule compared to No. 31 for the Rebels according to ESPN.
Ole Miss is currently at No. 14 right behind No. 13 Alabama in the latest College Football Playoff rankings. Clemson, which was No. 12, losing to South Carolina over the weekend frees up a spot for both teams to move up.
Now the only question remains whether the Rebels’ resume is enough to help them leapfrog the Crimson Tide.
